Customer Add-on Products
Customer add-on products are Shopify products that let your customers purchase extra environmental impact alongside their regular order. The customer pays for the impact, not you.
What are customer add-on products?
Customer add-on products are regular Shopify products that are linked to 1ClickImpact impact categories. When a customer adds one to their cart and completes checkout, the corresponding impact is automatically triggered — a tree is planted, ocean waste is removed, or carbon is captured.
Because these are standard Shopify products, the customer pays for them at checkout. However, the impact processing still counts against your monthly budget.
How they're created
Customer add-on products are created automatically during the setup wizard in Step 3 (Customer Add-ons). The wizard creates one product for each impact category you've enabled, with:
- A product title and description explaining the impact
- A price corresponding to the impact cost
- Product images
These products appear in your Shopify product catalog like any other product. You can customize the title, description, and images after creation.
How pricing works
Each customer add-on product is priced to cover the cost of the impact it creates:
- Plant a Tree — $0.40
- Plant a Food Tree — $0.60
- Clean Ocean Waste (1 lb) — $0.60
- Capture Carbon (1 lb) — $0.40
- Donate to a Cause — variable
You can adjust the price of customer add-on products in your Shopify admin. If you set the price higher than the impact cost, the difference is revenue for your store.
Since the customer pays for customer add-on products, these purchases do not count against your monthly budget. They work independently of your budget and billing.
Auto-fulfillment
Customer add-on products are digital — there's nothing to ship. 1ClickImpact can automatically fulfill these line items after the order is placed, so they don't clutter your fulfillment workflow.
When auto-fulfillment is enabled, the customer add-on line item is marked as fulfilled immediately after the order is created. The rest of the order (physical products) remains unfulfilled and follows your normal shipping process.
Managing customer add-on products
Since customer add-on products are regular Shopify products, you can:
- Edit their title, description, and images in the Shopify admin
- Add them to collections or feature them on your homepage
- Hide them from your catalog if you only want them shown via the checkout widget
- Adjust pricing as you see fit
If you delete a customer add-on product in Shopify, it will no longer be available for customers to purchase.
